About us

The Kaarlela Museum of Local History and Culture is run by the Kaarlela Local History Association and represents the 19th century peasant culture in the Kokkola region. The local history association has owned the museum's extensive collections of objects and furnishings since its founding in 1935.

In addition to the main building from the mid-19th century, the area includes a number of period buildings such as a small cottage, stables, loft building, ria, granaries, smoke sauna, smithy, tannery, windmill and carding workshop. The local history museum also has the old stone building from 1775, which was built by Anders Chydenius as a brewhouse, baker's cottage and stables. Today, it houses the so-called Kaarlela Room, the Anders Chydenius Memorial Room and a permanent Lotta Svärd exhibition.

Venues

The main building can be rented for smaller private events.
